Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer team drew, 0-0,
with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Wednesday's Senior Night match
in Redlands.
Prior to the start of the contest, the program honored its seven
seniors: goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA), forward Colin
Corey (Beaverton, OR), midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA),
forward Nick Gundersen (Park City, UT), midfielder Will Kelly
(Seattle, WA), defender Andrew Lazarz (Sammamish, WA) and defender
Jeff Willey (Medina, WA).
Redlands came out swinging in the first half, ripping 12 shots to
Pomona-Pitzer's five. Both teams traded blows in the second
stanza, and despite numerous chances, neither squad could find the
back of the net.
In the first overtime period, the Maroon and Gray earned a golden
opportunity to pull off the victory. With less than 10 seconds left
to play in the frame, junior defender Danny Connors (Lake Oswego,
OR) scrambled to take a corner kick, and the ball eventually found
the head of Kelly. Kelly put a head on the ball with one tick left
on the clock, but it careened off the crossbar, giving the Sagehens
a breath of new life in the match.
Pomona-Pitzer earned an equal opportunity in the final moment of
the second overtime as Zach Mirman uncorked a shot that Hobson
turned away.
Notably, the Bulldogs took an astounding 11 corners throughout the
match and edged the Sagehens in shots, 29-22.
Pomona-Pitzer (12-3-1, 10-1-1 SCIAC) hosts a Cal Lutheran
University team that is fighting for a bid into the Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason
Tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Redlands (8-6-4, 7-3-3 SCIAC) concludes its regular season with an
11 a.m. match against the University of La Verne on Saturday in La
Verne.
