Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer team was unable to
contain Chapman University on Monday in Redlands as the Panthers
clawed their way to a physical 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs.
After a scoreless first half, Chapman's Alex Sewitz
capitalized off of an indirect kick just 1:20 into the second
frame, putting the Panthers up, 1-0. Dalton Sweaney struck just
three minutes later when he drove a through ball past senior
goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) and gave Chapman the 2-0
advantage.
Freshman forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) cut the lead in
half when he rebounded a shot by sophomore midfielder Cody Carlson
(Burbank, CA) and put the ball in the back of the net.
A Chapman red card with 7:25 remaining gave Redlands a glimmer of
hope to equalize the tally. With the man advantage, the Maroon and
Gray took seven shots, but none crossed the goal line.
Hobson notched three saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs
and shouldered the loss. Tyler Hadzinsky picked up the victory for
the Panthers, halting three shot attempts on target.
Redlands (2-4-1, 1-1 SCIAC) hits the road on Wednesday as it
travels to Pasadena to square off against Caltech. Kickoff is
slated for 4 p.m.
