The University of Redlands men's soccer team responded to
its Monday loss to Chapman University in grand fashion, shredding
Caltech, 7-1, on Wednesday in Pasadena.
Sophomore midfielder Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA), junior midfielder
John Brookover (Boise, ID) and senior midfielder Will Kelly
(Seattle, WA) all posted two goals apiece in the Bulldog
victory.
Senior midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA) opened scoring in
the third minute before Carlson found the back of the net less than
a minute later to give the Maroon and Gray a 2-0 lead.
Entering halftime, Redlands maintained its two-goal advantage over
the Beavers. Grayson Chadwick of Caltech cut the Bulldog lead in
half in the 56th minute, marking the team's third goal of the
season.
The floodgates opened 10 minutes later when Brookover scored in the
66th minute and again in the 74th minute. Kelly notched scores in
the 78th minute and the 86th minute while Carlson sandwiched his
second goal of the match in between in the 80th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) stopped two shots in
between the pipes for the Maroon and Gray, earning the win, while
Marcus Lucas surrendered six of Caltech's seven goals and
took the loss.
Redlands (3-4-1, 2-1 SCIAC) travels to Claremont on Saturday for a
crucial conference tilt against the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Colleges. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
