Box Score After recording offensive explosions in the second half of its
last two contests, the University of Redlands men's soccer team
posted two goals in the first stanza to defeat the visiting
Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday
night at Farquhar Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs remain in first place with a Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)-best 7-0-2
record to go along with an overall mark of 8-1-2.
The Bulldogs struck first as junior defender Sean Cruz (The
Woodlands, TX) found the back of the net at the 20:46 mark for his
first goal of the season.
With less than three minutes to go in the opening period, rookie
midfielder Pat Roraff
(Redlands, CA) extended Redlands' lead as he notched his second
goal in as many games. Senior defender Danny Connors (Lake
Oswego, OR) dished him a quick pass to the top of the box,
recording his second assist in 2010.
This marked the Bulldogs' inaugural first-half lead since
earning a 3-0 advantage against Caltech on Sept. 22.
Pomona-Pitzer made a fighting effort to come back as sophomore
forward Erik Munzer (Beverly Hills, CA) struck a netter with less
than two minutes remaining in regulation, but it wasn't enough to
overcome the Bulldogs' early lead.
Redlands dominated the oppositions' side of the field as
Pomona-Pitzer mustered only two shots-on-goal and six in total. The
Maroon and Gray rattled off 14 attempts, with three of them on
frame.
The Bulldogs (8-1-2, 7-0-2 SCIAC) take to the road on Saturday
as they face off against the Beavers of Caltech on North Field at 4
p.m.
