Box Score Griffin Supplies Hat Trick in Bulldog Men's Soccer Homecoming
Victory over CLU
With junior forward Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA) supplying a
first-half hat trick, the University of Redlands men's soccer team
cruised by the visiting Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University, 4-0,
on Saturday under the lights of Farquhar Field during
Homecoming.
Griffin began his offensive onslaught at the 22:53 mark by
sending one past the CLU goalkeeper after connecting with sophomore
defender Brad Jackson's (Bellevue, WA) right-to-left pass
Redlands registered its second score less than six minutes later
off of sophomore midfielder Gabe Ramirez's (Pasadena, CA) corner
kick that Griffin headed into the back of the net.
Griffin finalized his first-half hat trick at the 38th minute
when freshman midfielder Pat Roraff (Redlands, CA) fed him a deep
cross for the one-timer score.
The Maroon and Gray capped off the evening in the 77th minute as
the team's two captains combined efforts for the fourth netter with
junior forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) assisting on senior
midfielder John Brookover's (Boise, ID) third goal of the
season.
The goalkeeper combination of freshman Andreas Silva (San Jose,
CA) and junior Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) posted eight
saves during 90 minutes en route to the combined shutout.
The Bulldogs made the most of their offensive opportunities with
an 18-14 shot advantage to go along with three more corner kick
chances than the Kingsmen.
With tonight's celebratory victory, the Bulldogs eclipsed the
10-win plateau and now improve to 9-1-2 in Southern California
Intercollegiate Conference (SCIAC) play.
Redlands hosts Senior Night on Wednesday as it takes on the
Tigers of Occidental College with a 7 p.m. kickoff on Farquhar
Field.
