The University of Redlands men's water polo team nabbed an exciting 10-7 victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Saturday's match-up at the 2010 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championships. The Bulldogs faced a one-goal deficit after three periods but then rattled off a 4-0 run in the final frame to edge out the Stags.
Redlands gained a hat trick from junior driver Shane Anderson (Riverside, CA), while senior driver Drew Fischer (Highland, CA) and junior center Blake vanHartesvelt (Mercer Island, WA) both found the back of the net twice. Junior driver Danny Boessenecker (Clayton, CA), senior center Brendan Meaney (Palm Desert, CA) and senior center-defender Andrew Smith-Jones (Annapolis, MD) each contributed one goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Abbott (Alta Loma, CA) and sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Gunther (Perris, CA) shared time in the cage, recording four and seven saves, respectively.
Redlands (19-16) moves on to Sunday's fifth-place game against the Air Force Academy at 10:40 a.m. on the campus of Santa Clara University.
