The University of Redlands men's water polo faced off against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Saturday's semifinal match of the 2011 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament but fell short to the Sagehens by a score of 9-11.
After two quick Sagehen scores, the Bulldogs faced an early deficit and never recovered.
Down 4-6 at the half, Redlands rallied to pull within one at 7-8 with less than two minutes remaining in the third period. During this spurt, sophomore driver Quinn Curl (San Mateo, CA) fired off two of his three goals, while senior driver Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA) chipped in his only score of the game.
However, Pomona-Pitzer quickly answered with an early goal in the fourth frame to keep the Bulldogs at bay. Redlands scored twice more but it was not enough.
In addition to Curl, sophomore driver Clint Freeman (Brentwood, CA) continued his strong offensive play by contributing three netters. Senior drivers Shane Anderson (Riverside, CA) and Danny Boessenecker (Clayton, CA) joined Parsons on the stat sheet with one goal apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Abbott (Alta Loma, CA) recorded 12 saves in the loss.
As the No. 3 seed, Redlands faces fourth-seeded Cal Lutheran University in Sunday's third-place game at 1:30 p.m., which takes place at Las Flores Park in La Verne.
