The University of Redlands men's water polo team wrapped up its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) season with a 9-7 victory over the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University on Sunday, resulting in a third-place finish in the final standings.
During the back-and-forth contest, the score was knotted on four occasions through the third period until the Bulldogs finally rattled off three consecutive goals to make it 9-6 with 2:11 remaining in the game.
Although Cal Lutheran converted a final score with five seconds to go, Redlands held on for the regular-season victory.
Senior driver Jeff Parsons (Newark, CA) led the Maroon and Gray offense, notching three goals for the team's only hat trick. Sophomore driver Quinn Curl (San Mateo, CA) supplied the only other multi-goal performance with two netters.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Abbott (Alta Loma, CA) collected 10 saves while patrolling the Redlands cage.
The Bulldogs (16-17, 7-3 SCIAC) head to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Tournament on Thursday as the eighth seed, facing ninth-seeded Chapman University in the 6 p.m. game. The tournament continues through Sunday at UC San Diego in La Jolla.
