Box Score Led by junior defender Nick Eary's (Las Vegas, NV) two goals, the University of Redlands men's soccer program put on an offensive show tonight against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. After combining for five goals in their previous three contests, the Bulldogs erupted for a 6-0 victory in Wednesday's important match against the Sagehens.
Highlighted by Eary's first strike, Redlands came out firing and ripped off five shots in the first seven minutes of the game. Two of the three senior captains, forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) and defender Sean Cruz (The Woodlands, TX), assisted Eary on the initial scoring play at the 6:50-mark.
Eary collected his second netter in the 21st minute when he connected on cross by junior midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA), who led the SCIAC in assists last season.
Up by two at halftime, the Maroon and Gray unleashed a barrage of shots that resulted in four subsequent scores.
Ramirez punched in the Bulldogs' third goal, followed by netters from a freshman duo that recorded its first collegiate scores. Rookie midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) and freshman forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) knocked in one apiece within six minutes of each other.
Junior forward Noah Prudhomme (San Anselmo, CA) took advantage of one final opportunity when he found the back of the net at the 85:55-mark, earning his third career score.
The goalkeeper combination of sophomore Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) and senior Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) refused to allow a Saghen score, each picking up a save in the shutout victory.
The U of R now travels to San Antonio, TX, for a two-game slate, facing Trinity University (TX) on Sept. 16 and then Southwestern University (TX) on Sept. 17. Fans may follow the action via live stats through the men's soccer schedule page at www.goredlands.com.
