Redlands Men's Soccer Routs Caltech Beavers for Fourth Consecutive Win

Box Score

The University of Redlands men's soccer team cruised by the Beavers of Caltech on Wednesday afternoon in Pasadena, defeating the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent by a solid score of 8-0. The Bulldogs have now won four straight contests while outscoring their opponents, 15-1.

Redlands uncorked a lethal offense that included a barrage of first-time achievements and exciting accomplishments.

Junior midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA) initiated the scoring at 18:22 when he collected his second netter of the 2011 campaign.

A pair of senior forwards scored within four minutes of Ramirez's strike as Jamie Griffin (Seattle, WA) and Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) found the back of the net at 21:57 and 22:20, respectively. Freshman defender Nico Johnson (Las Vegas, NV) registered his first collegiate point by assisting on Griffin's goal.

Reserve senior midfielder Garrett Cottam (Taos, NM) notched his inaugural career Bulldog goal for a substantial 4-0 Bulldog cushion at the end of the first period.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, sophomore midfielder Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR) tacked on another score for the U of R, recording his second of the year.

Additional firsts came along for the Bulldogs as sophomore defender Tyler Smalley (Beaverton, OR) headed in his first collegiate goal in the 81st minute. Sophomore midfielder Tim Berggren (Salt Lake City, UT) also tallied his initial assist of the season by placing a solid corner kick to Smalley.

Redlands wrapped up the ball game with two more netters to make it an 8-0 victory. Freshman forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) took advantage of a one-on-one play to chip in his second goal of his rookie campaign, while senior midfielder and former placekicker Joe MacMillan (Pasadena, CA) crushed his inaugural score of his late career with the men's soccer program.

The goalkeeping duo of sophomore Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) and senior Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) put together a strong performance for the team's fifth shutout of the season.

Redlands (7-3-0, 4-0-0 SCIAC) welcomes conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to Farquhar Field on Saturday at 1 p.m.
