The University of Redlands volleyball team took to the court for the first time during the 2011 season, competing against NAIA foe La Sierra University. While struggling to terminate points against a feisty defense, the Bulldogs fell in four sets, 25-22, 20-25, 15-25, 18-25.

Redlands' best hitting performance came in the second set, when it registered a .321 showing against the Golden Eagles.

Leading the offensive charge for the Maroon and Gray, sophomore outside hitter Morgan Buckner (San Rafael, CA) posted a solid .235 effort with 10 kills.

Sophomore setter Alisha Cornick (Hollister, CA) dished out 15 assists and capitalized offensively with five kills on 10 attempts.

La Sierra boasted a more efficient offense with a team hitting percentage of .260 with four players in double-digit kills. Redlands settled for a .130 showing in its first competition of the season.

As a team, the Bulldogs out-blocked their opponents with nine, compared to five by La Sierra.

Redlands (0-1) strives to rebound on Friday and Saturday when it competes in the Cal Lutheran University Posada Royale Invitational in Thousand Oaks. On Friday, the Bulldogs square off against Southwestern University (TX) at 3 p.m. and then face UC Santa Cruz at 7 p.m.
