Box Score 2 The No. 16 University of Redlands Bulldog softball team clinched at least a share of the program's ninth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship by dismissing the Tigers of Occidental College in Sunday's doubleheader with a pair of 8-0 victories. In addition, sophomore outfielder Amanda Lievanos (Anaheim, CA) broke the school record for career home runs by launching her 21st and 22nd long balls during the twin bill.
The Bulldogs initiated the scoring in the first inning with a three-run shot over the left-field fence by junior Kayla Uphold (Fontana, CA).
Lievanos led off a three-spot in the third when she crushed the school-record-setting home run over the center-field fence. She broke Nicky Neumann's career mark of 20 after just two seasons in a Maroon and Gray uniform.
The Bulldogs finished out the opener after six innings when freshman short stop Linda Park (Torrance, CA) stepped up with a two-out double down the left-field line to plate sophomore left fielder Janelle Carrasco (Whittier, CA) and sophomore second baseman Amanda Clark (Riverside, CA).
Uphold and sophomore Gabrielle Sciuto (Poway, CA) combined for a no-hitter performance, splitting time on the mound in the shortened contest. Uphold fanned three Tigers, while Sciuto added five strikeouts of her own.
During the second game, Redlands gained a strong showing at the plate from the middle of the lineup, as the Nos. 3-8 hitters joined forces for all seven Bulldog hits.
In addition to Lievanos' solo home run in the fourth inning, Park stepped up with a three-RBI long ball for her sixth dinger of the season.
Uphold and Sciuto teamed up again in the night cap, allowing just one hit apiece while striking out three total.
Redlands (28-8, 20-2 SCIAC) heads to Claremont for its final doubleheader of the regular season, battling it out with the second-place Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Sunday, April 22, at 12 noon.
