Box Score The University of Redlands volleyball team squared off against the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match on Tuesday in Currier Gym, suffering a four-set loss by scores of 20-25, 16-25, 25-19, 17-25.
The Bulldogs put on a solid display during the third set by cranking out their best hitting percentage of the night at .344 while holding Pomona-Pitzer to its worst effort at .152. By keeping the opponents out of system, Redlands broke a 16-all tie with tough serving and relentless defense. Sophomore outside hitter Ashton Martin (Redlands, CA) and sophomore middle blocker Marisa Gile (Yucaipa, CA) led the late-set onslaught with two kills apiece. In addition, Martin joined forces with freshman middle blocker Allison Jensen (Redlands, CA) and sophomore outside hitter Haili Hannah (San Diego, CA) for a well-timed block at the net. The Bulldogs closed out the set with a triumphant tally of 25-19.
However, the comeback effort lost its luster during the fourth frame, as Pomona-Pitzer sealed the match-victory at 25-17.
Overall, senior outside hitter Morgan Buckner (San Rafaal, CA) led the Bulldog attack with 13 kills, while Gile provided 10. In addition, Martin knocked down nine kills and Jensen converted eight.
Defensively, sophomore libero Karly Burningham (Sonoma, CA) continues to lead the Maroon and Gray, racking up 21 digs on the night. In addition, junior libero Courtney Johnson (Dana Point, CA) supplied 13 and senior libero Brittney Overgaag (Palm Desert, CA) provided 10.
For the Sagehens (18-7, 10-4 SCIAC), junior outside hitter Allie Frappier (Atherton, CA) impressed with her 23-kill, 16-dig performance.
Redlands (6-20, 3-11 SCIAC) heads to Occidental College for a 7:30 p.m. match on Friday before returning home on Saturday for Senior Night at 6 p.m. against No. 25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
