The University of Redlands men's water polo team traveled to the University of La Verne for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) battle on Saturday, with the Bulldogs prevailing by a score of 15-7 over the Leopards.
The action started with a goal from senior center-defender Christian Ogawa (San Diego, CA) before junior center Tommy Hartwig (Vista, CA) added to the Maroon and Gray lead with a goal of his own.
Although the Leopards cut the deficit to one with a late netter in the first frame, the Bulldogs began to pull away in the second stanza, when junior driver Michael Robinson (Corona, CA) contributed a pair of Bulldog scores.
After La Verne rallied to make it a one-goal game once again, the Bulldogs fired off an 8-1 run to close out the third period, refusing to relinquish the lead. During this stint, senior driver Quinn Curl (San Mateo, CA) and Robinson contributed two goals apiece, while senior center Clint Freeman (Brentwood, CA) uncorked three netters for the Maroon and Gray.
Leading 12-4, the U of R cruised to victory with another solid performance in the fourth stanza. Along with Freeman, freshman driver Kyle Murata (Brea, CA) and freshman driver Jacob Kurtz (El Cajon, CA) found the back of the net for the team's strong finish.
Freeman and Robinson finished with a team-high four goals, while Murata and Curl recorded the only other multi-score showings for the Maroon and Gray with two each.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Abbott (Alta Loma, CA) and freshman goalkeeper Christian Sekula (LaGrange, IL) shared time between the pipes, recording five saves apiece.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in their final dual-match of the SCIAC season at 7 p.m.
