Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer team played its first road game of the 2013 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) campaign, and came up short against Cal Lutheran University, 0-1. Despite out-shooting the Kingsmen on the evening, 9-8, the Bulldogs could not find the finishing touch, resulting in the first conference loss for Redlands on the season.
Cal Lutheran got on the board in the 18th minute when Kyle Fleming scored to put the Kingsmen in front.
By halftime, CLU held the slight shot advantage, 5-4, while the U of R had racked up four corners to just one for the Kingsmen.
In the second stanza, Redlands started to create more opportunities, generating five shots in the final 45 minutes. Not one beat the Cal Lutheran goalkeeper, however, as the Maroon and Gray was shut out for the first time this year.
On the night, Bulldog junior forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA), junior midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV), and senior midfielder Jon Frisby (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) each registered two shots for the U of R.
In addition, Redlands held the overall advantage in corner kicks, tallying eight to Cal Lutheran's two.
The U of R (2-1-0, 2-1-0 SCIAC) returns to action on Saturday evening when it travels to Whittier College to take on the Poets. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
