Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer team continued Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Wednesday afternoon by facing the Chapman University Panthers in Orange. While a scoreless game ensued for the majority of the contest, the Bulldogs allowed a late, second-half goal that resulted in the difficult loss for the Maroon and Gray.
Amidst a defensive battle, Redlands was conservative in its attack early on, as it fired off only three shots in the first half. Junior midfielder Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA) blasted off two shots while freshman forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) uncorked a quality attempt.
The Bulldogs continued to fight through the tight contest, as senior forward
Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) registered a pair of second-half shots. Marsden finished the night with a third shot, while sophomore midfielder
Austin Moore (Las Vegas, NV) added another scoring opportunity for the Maroon and Gray.
With about 20 minutes to play, Chapman managed to find the back of the net with what became the game-winner.
Although freshman defender Jared Bales (Issaquah, WA) provided a last-minute header attempt, the Bulldogs' final shot missed the mark.
Freshman goalkeeper John Melito (Portland, OR) tallied six saves on the night.
Overall, Redlands recorded three corner kicks and only committed five fouls.
The Bulldogs (2-5-0, 1-2-0 SCIAC) continue their SCIAC journey on Saturday, September 20, when they travel to Occidental College for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Tigers.
