Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer team competed in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Monday night by facing off against the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The Bulldogs pushed their winning streak to five games while earning their second-consecutive shutout with a 2-0 triumph over the Stags.
Redlands tried its luck nine times in the opening frame, with freshman forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) leading the charge with three shots.
The Bulldogs struck first in the 20th minute when freshman midfielder Jesus Avalos (La Quinta, CA) netted his first career-score. Following a corner kick, he one-touched a shot into the back of the net for the Bulldogs' 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) was a vacuum early on in the game by raking in four saves in the opening 45 minutes to preserve the shutout.
The Bulldogs continued to work for more chances in the second frame, as sophomore midfielder Sergio Valencia (San Jose, CA) and Parsa each fired off a shot in the first few minutes.
Parsa finally broke through in the 56th minute, notching the fifth goal of his rookie season. After sophomore forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) crossed the ball to him from the near side, Parsa took full advantage of an open, far-post look for the score.
The Bulldogs fired off six more shots in the game en route to their 18-14 overall advantage against the Stags.
The defensive unit of junior Colin Zaccagnio (Phoenix, AZ), sophomore Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI), senior Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA), and junior Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) led the Bulldogs to their fifth shutout victory.
Freshman midfielder Arman Mogheri (Danville, CA) and sophomore midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) contributed their usual solid minutes while combining for three shots on the night.
With the win, Haskill remains undefeated between the posts with a record of 5-0-2. In addition, he hauled in six saves in a full-game performance.
The Bulldogs continue SCIAC competition on Saturday, October 17, by facing off against the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens at 7 p.m. in Claremont.
