Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer squad looked to capture its sixth-consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory on Saturday afternoon when it faced off against the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in an important match. While unleashing three second-half goals, the Bulldogs took down the Sagehens by a score of 4-0 to remain undefeated in the month of October.
The Bulldogs wasted no time in initiating the offense, as sophomore midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) put the Bulldogs on the board with a score in the eighth minute of action. The Maroon and Gray went on to fire off eight shots in the remaining minutes of the contest, but to no avail.
The Bulldogs' defensive unit of junior Colin Zaccagnio (Phoenix, AZ), sophomore Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI), senior Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA), and junior Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) came to play early by limiting Pomona-Pitzer to four shots in the first half.
With only a 1-0 lead, the Bulldogs ran rampant offensively in the second half, notching 11 shots and three goals for the solid outcome.
Yates kicked off the scoring circus for the Bulldogs in the 52nd minute after linking up with sophomore forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) to expand Redlands' lead to 2-0.
After assisting on the second score of the contest, Boone followed five minutes later with a score of his own, with help from sophomore midfielder Sergio Valencia (San Jose, CA), to make it a 3-0 advantage.
Redlands added another goal in the 81st minute, compliments of sophomore midfielder Cody Dunham (Fountain Hills, AZ). Freshman midfielder Arman Mogharei (Danville, CA) facilitated the score, marking his first career-assist.
The Bulldogs' defensive brigade continued to hold strong, with additional contributions from sophomore Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA) and junior Jared Bales (Issaquah, WA), by restricting the Sagehens' offensive output to only four shots to mirror the unit's effectiveness of the opening 45 minutes.
Freshman forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) remained highly active in the offensive plan by leading the squad in shots with four. Junior forward Matt Speegle (Castro Valley, CA) and Dunham backed their counterpart with three shots each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) earned his sixth victory of the season while still boasting an undefeated record. In addition, he hauled in two saves in less than 71 minutes of work. Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Ochoa (Santa Monica, CA) clocked the final 19 minutes of action between the posts.
With their victory, the Bulldogs remain in first place in conference after earning their third-consecutive shutout.
Redlands (11-2-2, 9-2-1 SCIAC) continues SCIAC action on Wednesday, October 21, by hosting the Occidental College Tigers in an important 7 p.m. match under the lights of Farquhar Field.
