Redlands Men's Soccer Secures 13th SCIAC Title with 3-1 Win over CLU

Box Score

While notching a hat trick in a matter of 12 minutes, the University of Redlands men's soccer team clinched the 2015 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship with a 3-1 showing over the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen on Monday night.  With one conference game to go, the Bulldogs have collected the program's 13th overall conference title and the seventh under Head Coach Ralph Perez.

Redlands came out with an offensive mindset, as freshman forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) unleashed six shots in the first 28 minutes of action.  Sophomore forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) also fired off two of his five shots during this span.

In the 30th minute, the Bulldogs got on the board off of a set piece following a Cal Lutheran foul.  With senior midfielder Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA) precisely lofting the ball into the box, junior defender Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA) finished the play by knocking the ball into the back of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Redlands took advantage of opportunity on a corner kick.  Sophomore midfielder Vidal Ornelas (Corona, CA) found Elsea, who blasted off his second netter of the game for the Bulldogs' 2-0 lead.

The Maroon and Gray completed the first-half hat trick when sophomore forward Alexander Knox (Kirkland, WA) scored his seventh netter of the season.  Freshman defender Spencer Scott (Portland, OR) fed him the ball for a well-executed play in the box.

Although CLU pulled one back in the second half, Redlands continued to take care of business for the title-clinching win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) improved to 9-0-2 on the season after a solid first-half performance that included three saves.  Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Ochoa (Santa Monica, CA) contributed a solid 45 minutes and registered three saves as well.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Kingsmen by a 21-to-17 margin.  They also dominated the corner kicks with six, compared to CLU's single opportunity.

Redlands (14-2-2, 12-2-1 SCIAC) looks forward to celebrating Senior Night on Halloween when it hosts the University of La Verne in a 7 p.m. showdown on Farquhar Field.
