The University of Redlands men's soccer team entered into its last Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular-season showdown on Saturday night against the University of La Verne Leopards under the lights on a chilly night at Farquhar Field. Despite firing off twice as many shots as the Leopards, Redlands was ultimately edged in 0-1 decision.

Prior to the contest, seniors Gustavo Orozco (Marin County, CA), Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA), and Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA) were honored for their valuable contributions to the Bulldog soccer program.

After the Bulldogs were slow to create an offensive rhythm in the contest, sophomore midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) grabbed ahold of the reigns and fired off the team's first three shots. He continued to remain aggressive by hammering off two more shots near the conclusion of the first half, but to no avail.

The defensive unit of junior Austin Moore (Las Vegas, NV), sophomore Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI), junior Colin Zaccagnio (Phoenix, AZ), Elsea, and Marsden teamed up to halt the Leopards from scoring and allowing them to record only three shots in the first frame.

The Leopards notched the first and eventually only score of the battle in the 51st minute.

The Bulldogs tried their foot five more times, with sophomore forward Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR) notching two shots. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs could not convert a score en route to the defeat.

Despite allowing only one score, sophomore goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) picked up his first loss of the season after making two impressive saves. 

ChubbFertal led all players with six shots, while Boone backed him with two.

Regardless of tonight's outcome, the Bulldogs (14-3-2, 12-3-1 SCIAC) own the first seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, which starts on Wednesday, November 4. Redlands plays host to the fourth-seeded Occidental College Tigers at 7 p.m. under the lights at Farquhar Field.
