Redlands Men's Basketball Falls at Pomona-Pitzer

Box Score

The University of Redlands men's basketball headed to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tilt on Saturday afternoon. Although junior guard Jack Roggin (Toluca Lake, CA) and junior guard Vincenzo Ferrari (Burlingame, CA) teamed up for 49 points, it just wasn't enough to overpower the Sagehens, ultimately falling by a final score of 74-86.

After sophomore forward Kameron Wright (Fontana, CA) scored the opening bucket of the game, Pomona-Pitzer went on a 12-2 run to force the Bulldogs to work from behind. At 15:22 and 12:26, Roggin and Ferrari hit a pair of triples to pull within four at 12-16.

Ferrari continued to dominate in the paint with two layups in the ensuing two minutes for a 16-18 score.

The teams traded baskets for the rest of the half, as Roggin ended the period with a layup and a 28-32 score at halftime.

Roggin rolled over his offensive prowess into the second half with all six of Redlands opening buckets including three, three-pointers. One more trey-ball from Ferrari at 12:57 brought the Bulldogs within one at 46-47.

On the subsequent Saeghen possession, Roggin swiped a steal and despite the first shot not falling, Ferrari hauled in the offensive board and turned it into points with a crafty layup to go up 48-47.

From there, the Sagehens offense began to click to put Redlands in a 48-60 deficit at the 7:11-minute mark.

Just over 30 seconds later, senior guard Hass Berry (Riverside, CA) and senior forward David Menary (Grass Valley, CA) teamed up for back-to-back threes to work to close the gap once again.

Although the Bulldogs sunk six, three-pointers in the final four minutes, Pomona-Pitzer kept its lead, handing the Bulldogs a 74-86 loss.

Roggin finished with 28 points while Ferrari added 21.

Redlands (9-4, 2-2 SCIAC) continues conference action with a game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday, January 15 in Currier Gym.
