U of R Football dominant in 24-7 win over La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team put together a dominant performance Saturday beating the University of La Verne 24-7 improving to 3-1, 2-0 SCIAC.

The Bulldogs put up seven points in the opening quarter and then led 17-7 at the break.  In the second half the Maroon and Grey continued with their suffocating defense as they held ULV scoreless, while adding another touchdown in the fourth.

On the afternoon Redlands' offense totaled 17 First Downs, 33:03 of Possession Time, 139 Yards Rushing, 193 Yards Passing and 332 Yards of Total Offense.  For the defense they were tough limiting the Leopards to just 189 Yard of Total Offense with 124 coming through the air and a mere 65 rushing.  They also had two interceptions, seven TFL's and a pair of sacks.

The first score of the game came on Redlands' second possession where the Bulldogs went 56-yards on eight plays, which included a 20-yard completion to Seth Weller (Olympia, WA) and capped off with a three-run touchdown run from Tony Williams Jr. (Indio, CA)

Seventeen points were put up in the 2nd Quarter, ten of which came by the U of R.  Their first points of the period came on a 40-yard field goal by Vicente Garcia and they followed that on their second possession covering 60-yards on 9-plays this time with Tyler Tremain (Folsom, CA) finding Logan Sperline (Moses Lake, WA) for a 25-yard catch and run that moved the score to 17-7.

In the third quarter ULV looked to get on the scoreboard first following an interception of Tremain setting them up on UR's 31.  But the Bulldog defensive unit would hold strong stopping the Leos on a 4th and 3 at the UR8 that turned the ball over on downs.  The final score came for Redlands following an 8-play, 40-yard drive covering 4:24 that included five rushes from Williams Jr. for 32-yards, including an 8-yard scamper to the endzone putting the game out of reach.

Defensively Scott Tinsley (Capitola, CA) led the team in tackles with seven and also added a TFL and an Interception.  Jax Lee (Richland, WA) followed with six tackles and posted 2.5 TFL's and 1.5 Sacks for a combined 26 Yards.  Jaeden Thorn (Seattle, WA) totaled four tackles with 1.5 TFL's and 1.5 Sacks and Elijah Valles (Oceanside, CA) came away with the second pick this one returned 30-yards to go with a pair of pass break-ups.
