Bulldog Women's Volleyball swept by Whittier on Halloween

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Volleyball team (6-14, 2-12 SCIAC) dropped their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match with Whittier College in three sets on Tuesday evening inside Currier Gym as they were unable to get traction in any set.

Things started very well for the Bulldogs as Julia Hodges (Virginia Beach, VA) had an ace to open the game. Kaegan Wherry (Englewood, CO) then evened the score at two as she had a kill off a Maddy Schonauer (Bakersfield, CA) assist.

Trailing by five, 10-5, UR was able to win back-to-back points thanks to a Poet service error and a service ace for Kiki Stradford (Mission Viejo, CA). Whittier, however, won seven of the next ten as they held a 17-8 lead.

Stradford had her first kill while Wherry added two more with Schonauer picking up two assists and Lyric Waterman (Aurora, CO) setting up Wherry on her second tally as the Bulldogs dropped the opening set 25-13.

Redlands and Whittier were tied six different times early in the second set with Avery Aminoff (Alexandria, VA) adding two kills during that stretch. But an 11-2 run for the Poets made it 17-8. Aminoff, Stradford, and Paige Sugg (Federal Way, WA) all had kills the rest of the way in a 25-11 set loss.

The Bulldogs started the third set with the first two points. They were then tied at five after a pair of kills from Esha Ball with Ella Goettsche (Eastvale, CA) assisting on the second. Isabella Garey (Alexandria, VA) and Ball assisted on two blocks the rest of the way as the set ended 25-16 in favor of the Poets.

Stradford finished with eight kills, hitting .316 and added two block assists and an ace accounting for ten points on the night.  Wherry added nine kills with eight digs, Waterman with 11 assists, nine digs and Laural Pittman (Los Angeles, CA) with a team high 13 digs

The final road game of the season will be this Friday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. in Pasadena as the Bulldogs play the California Institute of Technology.
