Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bulldog Men's Soccer scores four times in home win over Kingsmen

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (9-1-1, 5-1-1 SCIAC) won their third in-a-row as they beat California Lutheran University (CLU) 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Farquhar Field.

The first shot of the game for the Bulldogs came in the fourth as Gabriel Martinez (San Jose, CA) had his attempt go wide left. Cody Bell (Highland, CA) would have his header miss wide left as well.

In the 30th minute the Bulldogs got on top as reserve Julian Weber (Haiku, HI) scored his first collegiate goal off a Jarette Barajas (San Jose, CA) assist. Barajas sent a low line drive pass from 25 yards out and got it over the top of a defender finding Weber who snuck behind the defense for the back post goal.

Eleven minutes later Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) scored his fourth of the season as Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) collected the assist to make it 2-0 with just over four minutes until halftime.

Less than seven minutes into the second half the Kingsmen got one back as they scored in the 52nd making it a one goal game.

Following the goal and a pair of yellow cards, one on each team, Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) was forced into a pair of save opportunities that maintained the 2-1 advantage.

His efforts would pay off courtesy of Barajas who scored his ninth of the season in the 70th. Barajas got the pass from about 35 yards out and was allowed to dribble to just outside the top of the 18-yard box and he took a shot beating the keeper on the ground.

The game was put away less than four minutes later as Spencer Palmer (San Diego, CA) scored his fourth goal of the season on a free kick. The attempt came from 25 yards out as the keeper had no chance and the lead was pushed to 4-1.

Despite a late CLU goal that made things interesting with six minutes left, the Bulldogs pulled out the win in a game that featured the second and third place teams.

Redlands will head on the road for a matchup with the University of La Verne on Wednesday, October 11 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
