REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team completed their 2023 season Saturday afternoon dropping a 21-6 decision to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the 3rd Place match-up between the Sun & Surf Divisions.
Redlands wraps up the 2023 season at .500 finishing 5-5, 4-4 SCIAC and placing 4th within the final conference standings.
The Bulldogs compiled 192 yards of total offense with 71 rushing and another 121 passing. Jack Wilson (Minneapolis, MN) was 12-for-20 throwing for 87 yards and Jordan Ford (Compton, CA) was 4-of-17 for another 34-yards. Ford also ran the ball five times for an additional 15-yards. Tony Williams Jr. (Indio, CA) was again solid out of the backfield carrying the ball 20 times for 77-yards, averaging 3.6 yards per rush. He also caught five balls for another 24 yards and comes up just shy of being a 1,000 yard career rusher.
Evan Aguon (San Diego, CA) finished with three catches for 23-yards and Cal Breen (Bainbridge Island, WA) added another three catches for 20 yards.
Redlands put up six points all coming on a pair of field goals made by Vicente Garcia (Fontana, CA). After barely missing a 48-yard attempt he would go on to connect from 42-yards and then 25-yards.
Claremont-M-S put up 14 points in the opening quarter using a blocked punt, which was recovered in the endzone for a score and then a 71-yard catch and run. After that the Stags were shut down by the Bulldog defensive unit managing only another seven points coming in the 4th Quarter, which came following an interception return of 72-yards setting them up for a score from inside the redzone.
The Bulldogs defensively were outstanding finishing with a pair of interceptions by Scott Tinsley (Capitola, CA) and Elijah Valles (Oceanside, CA) and a nine-yard sack by Jax Lee (Richland, WA). They also held CMS to 298 yards of total offense with a mere 75 yards coming on the ground. Dre Owens (Pico Rivera, CA) totaled nine tackles (4 Solo/5 Assisted) and Luke Purcella (University Place, WA) another eight (6 Solo/2Assisted).
