REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (1-1) lost their first game of the season as they dropped a 77-60 non-conference game to LIFE Pacific University (LPU) on Wednesday evening inside Currier Gym.
The Bulldogs' defense allowed the Warriors to convert on a three in the first :13 seconds of the game, but
Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) found
Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) for a jumper and
Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) converted on a layup as they led 4-3 and had not allowed a bucket in more than two minutes.
AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) scored to regain the lead for Redlands and then after a good defensive stretch,
Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) made a pair of free throws for their largest lead of the game, 8-5, with 4:11 remaining in the first.
The Warriors, however, would finish the final 3:54 on a 14-4 run as they took a seven-point lead into the second quarter. The four Bulldog points came from a pair of free throws from Zorich and Anderson.
Offense was tough to come by in the early stages of the second quarter for UR as they were held scoreless for the first three plus minutes before Anderson again got to the line and made both. Hosn's fastbreak layup with 6:05 on the clock was the first score in the run of play since Wick's basket more than ten minutes prior.
Redlands trailed by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, but Hosn found Wick for a jumper and with :47 seconds left in the half, Anderson scored in the paint after grabbing the defensive rebound on the other end and the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by 11, 37-26, after 20 minutes.
In the third quarter UR found themselves down by 21, 49-28, with less than five minutes to play. Redlands, though, went on a 12-4 run to get within four possessions, 54-42, with :54 seconds left. The Warriors would respond with five of the final six points as the deficit was 16, 59-43, after three.
In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs pulled within 14 on two different occasions, including with 3:21 to play, but LFU continued the great shooting from behind the arc as they made two more threes to close out the game.
Hosn, Anderson, and Wick all finished in double figures with 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively. Hosn added a career-high seven assists, while Wick had 10 rebounds for her second double-double in as many career games.
The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they host Concordia Chicago this Saturday, November 18 at 5:00 p.m. inside Currier Gym.
