Redlands Women's Basketball displays depth in loss to The Master's University

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (3-3) took on the The Master's University (TMU) Thursday evening inside Currier Gym where they fell 79-65 despite showing off their depth in the non-conference match-up.

The Bulldogs fell behind 9-2 in the opening three minutes with AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) converting UR's lone field goal with Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) picking up the assist.

Redlands found themselves trailing by 13, 19-6, but they would score seven of the next nine points with five coming from Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) and two from Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) as the Bulldogs pulled within eight, 21-13. After ten minutes the Bulldogs trailed by double digits, 23-13.

After trailing by double figures for the majority of the first four minutes of the second quarter, Wick scored inside and started a 6-0 run for the Maroon and Grey getting them within five, 29-24, with 4:22 left in the half. Nataly Bravo (Spring Valley, CA) made both of her free throws and Zorich assisted Anderson on a jumper in the paint.

The Bulldogs would get as close as four, but an 8-2 Mustang run made it a 10-point game again. Then in the final seconds of the half Avery Shiring (Yorba Linda, CA) would connect on a three off an Anderson assist to make it a seven-point deficit at the break.

It was a competitive first five plus minutes in the third as a Zorich jumper made it an eight point game, 49-41, with 4:31 on the clock.  The Mustangs, though, ended the quarter on a 14-5 run and led by 17, 63-46, heading into the fourth.

Redlands continued with the offense in the final 10:00 as they shot 87.5% from the field and 66.7% from behind the arc.  UR outscored the Mustangs 19-16 in the period with all 19 points coming from the reserves.  Bravo chipped in with another six points, while Jenna Schmitt (Bellevue, WA) would toss in four playing six minutes.  Despite the strong finish TMU would come out on top winning by 14, 79-65.

Zorich finished with team highs of 13 points (6-11 FG), eight rebounds, and three assists. All 11 Bulldogs that played scored.

Redlands will now prepare for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener this Saturday, December 2 beginning at 4:00 p.m. as they host California Lutheran University inside Currier Gym.
