Redlands Men's Basketball wins second in-a-row with win over Illinois Wesleyan

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (6-2, 0-1 SCIAC) beat Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) by 10 points Tuesday night as four players scored in double figures.

The Titans scored the opening four points before Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA) started a 7-0 Bulldogs run, which also included a three by Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA), and a layup on a fastbreak from Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA).

Khyree Armstead (Mountlake Terrace, WA) then assisted Power on a three with 9:04 on the clock as Redlands held their largest lead of the game at nine, 23-14. The Bulldogs would lead by as many as 17 in the first half and took a 12-point lead into the break, 43-31.

At the 17:58 mark of the second half Armstead made his two free throws and pushed the lead back to 17 again, 48-31.

Seven minutes later Boston made a layup that made it 62-48 with 10:37 left in the game, but the Titians would close the gap to three, 62-59, with 6:51 on the clock.

The Bulldogs responded well to the Titan run as Currey made a jumper off a Power assist and Currey then stole the ball and scored on the fastbreak to make it a double digit game once again, 72-62, with 4:28 remaining. The lead was enough for the Bulldogs to win their second-straight.

Currey finished with 21 points (8-for-18) and four rebounds. Armstead and Power each posted 16 points, while Ivan Belkin (Encino, CA) played in his second-straight great game chipping in with 11 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3-PT FG%) off the bench.

The Bulldogs will stay on the road as they head to Santa Cruz for a matchup with UC Santa Cruz on Thursday, December 28 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
