U of R Men's Basketball forces 25 turnovers in win over No. 18 Williams College

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (8-2, 0-1 SCIAC) earned another ranked win Friday night as they took down No. 18 Williams College 82-71 as they forced the Ephs into 25 turnovers, which resulted in 30 points, 23 more than Williams.

Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA) and Cameron Brown (Bakersfield, CA) got the Bulldogs off to a 5-1 lead in the opening minute and a half as Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA) assisted both baskets. Redlands would maintain that lead until the 15:55 mark when Williams knocked down a three taking their first lead of the game, 7-5.

After the two sides were tied at 12 with 13:40 on the clock, Brown made a three off another Currey assist and Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) was set up by Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA) on a three to extend the lead to the largest of the game at six, 18-12.

The lead was short lived as the Ephs would storm back with a 9-0 run in less than two minutes as they went back in front 21-18.  Thirty seconds later the Ephs extended their lead to five with 9:23 left in the half.

The Bulldogs were down by as many as six before they tied it at 28. After tying the game Redlands ended the final 4:24 on a 12-8 run as they led Williams by four, 40-36, after the opening twenty minutes.

Khyree Armstead (Mountlake Terrace, WA) got the offense off to a quick start in the second half as he made a pair of threes in the opening two minutes to put the Bulldogs up by double digits for the first time, 46-36.

Redlands would never see their lead dip below two possessions as they led by as many as 15, 80-65, with 2:42 left in the game as they upped their winning streak to four.

It was another balanced scoring effort with Currey, Brown, Cameron Joseph (Fairfield, CA), and Boston all scoring in double figures. Currey and Joseph each made four of their seven three point attempts as the Bulldogs went 15-of-31 as a team. The 15 makes from behind the arch are the most since converting on 16 threes against California Lutheran University last January.

As a team the Bulldogs committed only seven turnovers and forced 25, which resulted in 27 more field goal attempts as they overcame a 38.2 percent mark from the field offensively and a 51 percent field goal mark for the Ephs.

The Bulldogs have now completed their non-conference schedule and return to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play with a road game at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps next Wednesday, January 3 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Claremont.
