PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (8-8, 4-4 SCIAC) got by the California Institute of Technology 60-55 on Wednesday evening in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action thanks to a fourth quarter where they outscored the Beavers by seven.
Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) scored the first four points of the game and then assisted on the third as she found AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) for a jumper and a 6-3 lead with 6:27 on the clock.
With 1:38 remaining in the first quarter the Bulldogs found themselves down eight, 16-8, but Carly Hicks (Portland. OR) responded with a three and Zorich made a jumper off a Hicks assist as they were down five, 18-13, after the first ten minutes.
In the second quarter Redlands found themselves down 12 with only 2:46 left in the half. Leaya Mckinney (Sedalia, CO) would score six of the final eight points with the other two coming from Avery Shiring (Yorba Linda, CA) as UR was only down four, 32-28, at the half.
It was more of the same for the majority of the third quarter as the Bulldogs were down eight mid-way through the period before they went on an 8-1 run as they went into the final quarter only down by one, 47-46.
A Zorich jumper with 7:05 on the clock gave the Bulldogs the eventual game-winner as the Maroon and Grey would maintain their lead through the end of the contest.
In the final ten minutes it was the Mckinney and Zorich show as they combined for all 14 points going 6-for-7 from the field.
Zorich finished with 22 points (9-11 FG, 4-4 FT) and nine rebounds. After a career night against Chapman on Monday, Mckinney had a career-high 19 points (9-10 FG) and tied for a career-high nine rebounds. The two of them shot 85.7 percent from the field, while the rest of the team only made 21.4 percent of their shots.
The Bulldogs play at 4:00 p.m. at the University of La Verne this Saturday, January 20 as they look to get their third-straight win, which would be a season-high.
