Anderson posts first triple-double in program history as Women's Basketball beats Pomona-Pitzer

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (10-9, 6-5 SCIAC) got back over .500 Wednesday night inside Currier Gym beating the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 89-68 behind the program's first triple-double that came courtesy of Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) who finished with 17 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds. Her 14 assists tie the single-game program record set by Ariana Bates during the 1997-98 season.

AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) came out of the gates on fire in the first quarter offensively as she scored six of the first eight Bulldog points giving UR an 8-2 lead. Wick would then score another four points, which included Anderson's first assist, which made it 12-7 with 6:14 on the clock.

The largest lead of the first quarter was eight, which Redlands held twice as they took a four-point lead into the second quarter, 20-16.

The defense was fantastic to start the second period as the Maroon and Grey held the Sagehens scoreless for the first three minutes as they built a 12-point lead, 28-16. Of the eight points two were from Wick followed by Taylor Whaley (Olympia, WA) who made three consecutive field goals, all of which were assisted by Anderson.

Much like the first quarter, the Bulldogs would go from an 11-point lead to an eight-point advantage at the half after the Sagehens hit a three with nine seconds remaining.

After a slow first half Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) scored Redlands' first four points of the second half and she helped the Bulldogs to increase the lead to 21, 57-36, at the 5:14 mark.

Despite another late three from Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands would take a 70-52 lead into the final quarter. Zorich finished with eight points, while Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) knocked down another three for six points.

Leaya Mckinney (Sedalia, CO) and Anderson combined for six-straight points in the first minute and a half of the fourth as the lead grew to 22, 76-54. Anderson picked up two assists on the Mckinney baskets.

With the win secured for the Bulldogs, the Sagehens continued to push and with :10 seconds left they attempted a three that missed, and the rebound fell to Anderson, which was her 10th of the game securing the triple-double.

Anderson had a great night, but she was not the only one as Wick finished with 18 points (8-12 FG, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds, and a career-high five assists. Zorich had 16 points (7-10 FG, 2-2 FT), Hicks had 11 points, and Kayden Sanders had a quiet eight points and a career-high seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs will be on the road this Saturday as they make the long trek out to Thousand Oaks for a matchup with California Lutheran University for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game at 4:00 p.m.
