Redlands Football ends 2024 season with road loss at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Football team (3-7, 3-5 SCIAC) was held scoreless 24-0 on the road at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Saturday afternoon as their 2024 season came to an end.

The Bulldog offense failed to score in the first quarter and saw the Stags score a touchdown on their first possession taking a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter.  Following a Jaeden Thorn sack, the U of R defense forced a punt early in the second quarter giving the ball back to the offense.  This time the Bulldogs put together a good drive with Isaiah Alvarado (Coachella, CA) rushing for 13-yards, while quarterback Will Reid (Portland, OR) found Deo Robinson for another eight yards bringing up a 3rd and 1.  But the ensuing play would be a tackle for a loss (TFL), which ended the possession.

CMS scored to open the second half extending their lead to 21-0.  On the next Stag possession, they had a 3rd and goal at the Bulldog five. Justin Edwards ran the ball to the one before Chase Hunter (Murrieta, CA) forced a fumble that went through the endzone for a touchback, which gave the ball back to Redlands at the 20.

Now down 24-0, the Bulldogs got 17 yards on a reception from Robinson on the second play of the fourth quarter. Two plays later Alvarado ran for 11 yards and a first down to the CMS 29. The drive, though, came to an end four plays later after a pair of in-completions.

On the final offensive possession for the Maroon and Grey Taylor Bowie (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) had 23 yards rushing and Reid ran for another 13 yards before another turnover on downs ended the scoring opportunity at the CMS 19.

Redlands totaled a mere 181 yards of total offense with 95 rushing and another 86 through the air.  Alvarado averaged 5.6 yards per carry and had 67 yards. Evan Aguon (San Diego, CA) ended his career with two catches for 32 yards and Robinson had another 28 yards receiving.

The defense continued to shine as Maximus Susi (San Diego, CA) had nine tackles and 1.5 for losses. Hunter finished with eight tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. Craig Hunter (Murrieta, CA) made seven tackles and 1.5 for a loss. Matt Lising (San Diego, CA) had seven tackles and 0.5 for a loss, Thorn had six tackles and a sack and Cole Smith (Gaston, OR) finished with six tackles and another for a loss in his final game.

On special teams Aidan Petruescu (La Habra, CA) totaled nine punts for a combined 322 yards, averaging 35.8 Yards Per Punt with a long being for 41-yards and another landing inside the 20.
