FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (2-1) held a 15-point halftime lead against Ken Schumann Classic host Pacific University (Oregon) Saturday night, but failed to hold the advantage as they scored only 29 second half points leading to an 89-83 loss.
In the opening ten minutes Redlands was already up 16, 26-10, thanks to eight points for Dayvon Gates (Carson, CA), seven for Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA), and another six for Jake Hlywiak (Valencia, CA).
The lead then quickly ballooned to 19 after Gordon made two at the line followed by a Hlywiak triple off a feed from Donovan Ware (Palmdale, CA).
The largest lead of the half for the Maroon and Grey was 23, 43-20, with 4:52 remaining in the half and they were up by 20 with 1:39 to play before the Boxers scored seven of the final nine points.
After a dominant first half, the Bulldogs saw the Boxers cut the lead to single-digits at the 16:33 mark in the second. Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA) would re-establish the 10-point lead, but Pacific would score eight seconds later.
Following a Boxer run that made it a six-point game, Boston assisted Ware on a three and Chozen Amadi (Dallas, TX) found Gordon inside to put the U of R up 75-64.
Gordon got to the line once again with 6:54 left as he made it a 13-point lead, 79-66. Those free throws would be the final points the Bulldogs would score with control of the game as Pacific ended the contest on a 20-4 run.
Hlywiak had his best game as a Bulldog with 21 points on 50 percent shooting from the field, 40 percent shooting from three, and a perfect mark at the line. Gordon finished with a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
