WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (11-3-3, 8-2-2 SCIAC) ended their 2024 regular season schedule Saturday night on the road being held scoreless in a 1-0 loss to Whittier College. The Bulldogs had already locked up the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament, no matter with the result but were playing without two starters due to yellow card accumulation.
Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) made the opening save in the eighth minute prior to Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) putting his first attempt of the game on target.
Then in the 13th minute the Poets struck first for the early lead. They would maintain that advantage going into the half despite two more saves forced by Beckton and another from Taylor Bell (Highland, CA).
In the second half Bachman made another two saves to keep the Bulldogs close, while Beckton continued to pepper the goal, though, none found their way past the Poet keeper.
Following a Whittier foul Owen Jamieson (Danville, CA) had his first look of the night, but it was again turned away. The best opportunity for the U of R to get on the scoreboard came in the 82nd minute when Landon Azavedo (Portland, OR) stepped to the spot for a penalty kick. The equalizer though would be saved as the Bulldogs would be held scoreless for only the third time in 17 games, all coming on the road in SCIAC play.
Redlands turns their attention to the SCIAC Tournament Sem-Final beginning next Thursday, November 7 at Farquhar Field. They will host either No. 4 California Lutheran University or No. 5 Chapman University who play each other in Thousand Oaks on Tuesday in the first round.
