Redlands Women's Basketball opens season with win thanks to a dominant defensive performance

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (1-0) opened their 2024-25 season Friday with a 60-45 win against St. Catherine University.

The opening basket of the season came from AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) with Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) grabbing the assist.  The following baskets came from Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA), Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA), and Wick putting the Bulldogs ahead by eight, 10-2.

Kayden Sanders ended the quarter by knocking down a three with only four seconds on the clock as it was 15-5 Redlands.

Sanders opened the second period the way she finished the first, making another triple. With 2:01 left in the half Alex Facelo (San Jose, CA) was assisted by Hosn on a three to extend the lead to UR's largest of the game at 20, 31-11.

Leading by 18 at the half Redlands scored the first 11 points of the third quarter. Andrea Perkins (Seal Beach, CA) capped the run off with a three as they held the Wildcats scoreless for nearly six minutes increasing the lead to 30, 43-13.

With the game in hand the Bulldogs pulled some starters, which allowed St. Catherine to get within 15, 49-34, with 5:55 left in the fourth.

Facelo, Zorich, and Wick responded with layups over the next 2:30 as the lead grew to 19, which helped the Bulldogs close out the game.

Hosn did not have a big game offensively, but she had five assists and seven steals, tying her for the 11th most in program history. Wick added a double double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Zorich had a game-high 17 points with nine boards.
