Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Career night for AJ Wick leads Redlands Women's Basketball to big road win against Regals

THOUSDAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (5-5, 2-1 SCIAC) dominated California Lutheran University (CLU) in the first half Saturday night, which helped them earn a big Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road win, 73-57.

The Bulldogs had their best offensive quarter of the season in the opening ten minutes, scoring 28 points giving them a 17-point advantage.

Despite what would become a great quarter, the Regals held an early four-point lead, 9-5, after three and a half minutes before an AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) layup sparked a 23-2 run for the Maroon and Grey. Wick would finish the quarter with 12 points, while Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) added five points and Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) with another six.

The run continued through the first two minutes of the second quarter as Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) made three free throws after drawing a foul on a three-point attempt and a minute later she found Zorich for a layup giving UR a 33-11 lead.

A CLU layup at the 2:55 mark got the Bulldogs within 20, 39-21, but Hosn and Alex Facelo (San Jose, CA) would make a pair of threes as Redlands finished the half with the final nine points taking their largest lead of the game, 48-21.

As strong of a finish as the Bulldogs had to end the first half, the Reglas started the third on a 9-2 run to get within 20, 50-30.

Facelo, though, slowed the CLU run with a three off a Hosn assist as she sparked a 14-6 run that gave Redlands a new largest lead of 28, 64-36, with only 1:29 left to play in the quarter.

Redlands would not have the game in hand, however, as CLU finished the third with seven straight and extended that to 18-1 as they pulled within 11, 65-54, with 6:01 still to play.

Over the final 5:37 the Bulldogs made big plays, scored seven of the final 10 points, and held the Regals to only two points over the final 3:45.

Wick finished with a career-high 26 points and added four key assists. Hosn had 19 points, her most since November 2023 against Bethesda University when she scored her career-high of 21.

As a team the Bulldogs shot 47.5 percent from the field, a season-high, 3.9 percent higher than their .436 versus Transylvania University.

Redlands will now have a few weeks off before they go to Las Vegas (South Point Arena) for the D3hoops.com Classic on December 28 and 30 where they will take on SUNY Canton and Saint Vincent College.
