PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (14-9, 6-8 SCIAC) used a 51-point first half to take down the California Institute of Technology on the road 89-54 on Wednesday evening inside Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.
It was a competitive opening six minutes as the Bulldogs held a slim one-point lead, 13-12, as Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA), Neil Owens (Pasadena, CA), Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA), Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA), Khyree Armstead (Mountlake Terrace, WA), and Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) all scored in a balanced offensive attack.
At the 13:59 mark Ivan Belkin (Encino, CA) found Owens on a triple as he started a 32-4 run that lasted down to the 4:21 mark giving the Bulldogs a 29-point lead, 45-16.
After some back-and-forth over the final 1:17, Owens made two threes in the final :49 seconds as Redlands was up 51-22 at the half.
Following a fantastic end to the first half for the Bulldogs, the Beavers were able to start the first twelve and a half minutes of the second half on a 27-16 run as the lead was cut to 18, 67-49.
Sam Abere (Lake Oswego, OR) relieved some of the pressure with a jumper after Currey got a steal and then he was assisted by Owens on a three to make it a 23-point game, 72-49, with 5:02 left.
Currey and Belkin made back-to-back threes, which tied their largest lead of the game at 31, 82-52, as they would complete the dominant road win.
Gordon, Belkin, Owens, and Abere all scored in double figures with 16, 14, 14, and 10, respectively. Gordon added a career-high 13 rebounds for a double-double in only 23 minutes of play.
The Bulldogs finish their road schedule this Saturday at Occidental College beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Eagle Rock.
