REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team picked up their second straight ranked victory Wednesday night beating No. 26 Brandeis University 7-2 at the Verdieck Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs improve to 2-0, while the Judges drop to 0-2.

Redlands earned a pair of hard fought victories in doubles to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play where they would take five of six matches en route to the lopsided victory.
First-Years Kaylin Kielty (Canyon Lake, CA) and Rayna Sugai (Las Vegas, NV) picked up the first point for the U of R winning 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.  They were followed by Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) at No. 3 who would also grab an 8-5 win putting the Bulldogs up 2-0.  The Judges got onto the scoreboard at No. 1 as the Bulldogs' duo of Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and Livi Rockwood (Park City, UT) would fall 8-4.

In singles Redlands was dominant led by Deng and L. Rockwood who would bounce back at No. 1 and No. 3.  Deng cruised 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot and L. Rockwood would use a break in each set to win 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 putting UR up 4-1.  The clinch came at No. 4 from Sugai who had some pushback in the opening set winning 6-4 before rolling 6-2 in the second.  Kielty kept the run going winning in the same fashion at No. 5 taking it 6-4, 6-2.

Brandeis stopped the run with a win at No. 2 but needed three sets to pick it up.  Brady would fall behind a set 6-4 but would force a decisive third with a 6-2 win in the second.  But the rally would fall short as the Judges' Pawani would pull out a 10-8 win in the third set super tiebreaker.

Another three-setter took place at No. 6 from junior transfer Deja Brown (San Diego, CA) who would be forced to come from a set down to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 giving the Bulldogs their seventh point on the evening.

Redlands returns to the court next Wednesday, February 28 when they host No. 25 Washington & Lee University beginning at 5:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
