ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (1-1) held a lead at Oglethorpe University into the fourth quarter, but the Stormy Petrels would go on to score the final six goals as the Bulldogs would fall 16-12 wrapping uptheir trip to Georgia.
It was a back-and-forth start to the game as the two sides were tied on six different occasions in the opening period. After Oglethorpe scored the game's opening goal, Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) found Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) at the 13:12 mark to tie it up at one.
The Stormy Petrels then retook the lead, but Webster again tied the game as she started a 3-0 Bulldog run that put UR up 4-2 with 8:42 still to play in the first. Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) found Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) for the third goal and Webster set up Czajkowski for the fourth.
The final Bulldog tally of the opening 15 minutes was the hat trick for Webster as Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) found her for a 5-3 lead.
Oglethorpe would tie the game up early in the second until Webster scored her fourth in the first 17 minutes to reclaim the lead 6-5 for the Maroon and Grey.
Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA) made it 7-6 with 8:16 remaining in the first half as Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA) picked up the assist. After a five-minute scoring drought that allowed the Stormy Petrels to go back in front 8-7, Maya Weaver (Tustin, CA) assisted Flaig to even the score at eight. Oglethorpe, though, scored the final two of the half to lead 10-8 at the break.
It was a 4-1 run for Oglethorpe to end the half, but Redlands would start the second with four unanswered that put them ahead by two early in the fourth quarter.
Webster started the half with a player up goal before Morrissey assisted Flaig on another player advantage situation as the game was tied once again, this time at 10-10.
The lead goal came from Czajkowski and the fourth score of the run was the fourth-straight with a player advantage as Flaig picked up an assist on Bradford's goal with 1:27 left in the third.
Oglethorpe did not score for the first time in the second half until there was only 10:33 remaining in the game as Redlands' defense held them scoreless for more than 21 minutes.
Over the next 9:20 after their first goal of the half, the Stormy Petrels would score five more times as they earned the 16-12 win in a competitive final game of the Bulldogs trip to the South.
As a team the Bulldogs took 20 of their 30 shots in the first half, while the Stormy Petrels were able to get six more shots in the second half.
Alyssa Ashley (Vista, CA) played the entire 60 minutes and made five saves and recorded four ground balls. Flaig had three goals, one assist, four draw controls, and a caused turnover. Webster scored five times and went two-for-two on free position shots.
The Bulldogs will return home to host Marian University on Monday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. in their home opener at Farquhar Field.
