REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (2-1) won their 2024 home opener 20-7 against Marian University on Monday evening at Farquhar Field.
The Bulldogs got off to a great start as they began the game on a 5-0 run in the first eight minutes thanks to a pair of goals from Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) and Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) with the fifth score coming from Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA). Webster, Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA), and Walker all had assists during the stretch.
After the Sabres scored two unanswered Redlands went on another 5-0 stretch as Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) assisted Walker on the first goal of the run. Morrissey, Catie Ramicone (Countryside, Ill.), Flaig, and Ella Batarse (Porter Ranch, CA) scored the next four goals and Maya Weaver (Tustin, CA) picked up a pair of assists on the Morrissey and Ramicone scores as the U of R led 10-3.
In the first three plus minutes of the second quarter Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) was found by Briannah McGee (Murrieta, CA) for the Bulldogs 11th goal before Walker converted on a free position goal at the 11:37 mark.
Redlands would end the half by taking their first double digit lead thanks to a Flaig assisted Webster goal with only a minute left in the half as the Maroon and Grey led 15-5.
In the third quarter it was all Redlands as they allowed only one goal, while tacking on another three all from Webster.
The final two goals of the game came at the 12:41 and 9:09 marks of the fourth as Ramicone was able to score off a Bradford assist followed by McGee who made it 20-6.
As a team the Bulldogs held the advantage on shots (36-15), clears (7-3), and draw controls (17-13).
Webster tied a career-high with seven goals, which ties her for the fifth most in a single-game in program history. Her nine points are tied for fourth most. Flaig won 11 draw controls, the second most in program history.
The Bulldogs will head to No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, March 6 as they take on the Sagehens in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener beginning at 7:00 p.m.
