CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (0-10) played their first two games at the Claremont Convergence Tournament Friday falling 17-8 to Siena College in the early afternoon before losing to No. 22 Long Island University (LIU) 16-0 in the nightcap.
Game 1 - Siena (L, 17-8)
The Bulldogs got themselves into a 5-0 hole through six minutes in the first quarter before Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) was able to get them on the board with 2:28 on the clock.
Then after the Saints scored three-straight, the Bulldogs scored their second goal thanks to Pierceall with 5:21 left in the half. Her goal started a 4-0 Redlands run as they got within three, 8-5, at the 5:45 mark of the third as their defense had held Siena scoreless for more than eight minutes.
The other three goals during the run came from Ainsley Killian (Beaverton, OR) and Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) twice.
The comeback was not enough for the Bulldogs as the Saints were able to hold them to only one goal down the stretch as they would fall by nine.
Pierceall scored three times Parker netted two while Evelyn Teeter (Westminster, CA) finished with nine saves and two steals.
Game 2 - Long Island (L, 16-0)
The Bulldogs were able to get 19 shots, 12 of which required a save from the Sharks' goalkeeper, but LIU were able to score 16 times on 27 shots on-goal.
Parker led the way with eight shot attempts while Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA) had three. Killian, Pierceall, and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) each had two.
Pierceall and Notaro both had a steal apiece while the Bulldog defense drew six Shark exclusions. Teeter made 11 saves on 34 shots faced.
Redlands will play two more at the Convergence Tournament Saturday, March 2 as they take on Penn State Behrend at 10:30 a.m. and then the Virginia Military Institute at 3:30 p.m., both are at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Axelrood Pool).
