REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team had a chance to pull off an upset Tuesday night at the Verdieck Tennis Center falling 4-3 to Division I Boston University.
Redlands got out in front quickly taking the first point after winning two of three doubles. Boston University was up right away following a win at No. 2 as
Jax Ledwith (West Linn, OR) and
MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) would fall 6-1. But the Maroon and Grey would rally with
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) taking No. 3 6-3 followed by the top team of
Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and
Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) who would grind out a 7-6 (3) tiebreaker to put UR up 1-0.
In singles BU would take the momentum winning four of six matches. At No. 3-No. 4 Anderson and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) grabbed the lone points for the Bulldogs with Anderson pulling out a three-setter 7-6, 3-6, 10-7, while Marcanth would win in straights 6-2, 6-3.
Calixto ran into a tough match-up with Corey Craig falling 6-0, 6-1 at the top spot, Nir would drop 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 and Ledwith would drop in two as well 6-1, 6-3.
Linh Nguyen (Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam) made his collegiate debut at No. 6 and despite grabbing five games would ultimately fall 6-1, 6-4.
Redlands returns to the court Wednesday night for a showdown with No. 27 Babson College beginning at 5:00pm at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
