REDLANDS, Calif. -  The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team nearly pulled off their biggest upset on the season Tuesday night getting edged 5-4 by No. 6 Bowdoin College inside the Verdieck Tennis  Center.
Redlands has now dropped two in a row moving to 5-5, 1-1 SCIAC, while Bowdoin improves to 8-2.

Interim Head Coach Jake De Vries shuffled his lineup around for the first time this season and it paid off with the Bulldogs taking two of three in doubles to give the Polar Bears an early scare.

Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) would drop an 8-2 decision at No. 1 giving Bowdoin an early point.  But it would be the pairings at No. 2 and No. 3 that would giving UR the spark both pulling out wins in tiebreakers.  MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) were put together for the first time and they came out on top at No. 2 winning 8-7 (4) and Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) and Zac Nakajima (Beaverton, OR) would come together for the first time to grab an 8-7 (7) win at No. 3.

In singles Bowdoin tied things up quickly at No. 4 as Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) would fall 6-1, 6-0.  They then went on top 3-2 with a win at No. 6 as Tyler Pyle (Lake Oswego, OR) would drop in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
The score then moved to 4-2 in favor of the Polar Bears as Nir would fall 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 and the clinch would come at the top spot as Calixto despite taking the opening set 6-3, would fall 6-2, 6-1 allowing Bowdoin to pull out the road win.

The last two matches on were wins for the Bulldogs with Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) pulling out a 6-4, 7-6 (5) decision at No. 3 and Davydov at No. 5 cruising 6-1, 7-6 (4).
