REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (3-15, 2-3 SCIAC) won their second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game holding off Occidental College 9-4 on Wednesday night inside the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) as they outscored the Tigers 5-0 in the fourth quarter.
The lone goal of the first quarter for the Bulldogs came at the 6:03 mark when Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) found Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) to put UR on top 1-0.
Early in the second the Tigers took a 2-1 lead, but Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) would tie things up :32 seconds later as Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) picked up the assist.
Each team scored once over the final 4:30 of the half as the game remained tied at three heading into the break. Redlands' lone goal was a Sawin connection getting fed by Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA).
Parker scored a second earlier to begin the second half than she did in the first as it was 4-3 Bulldogs in the third. After eight minutes of holding the Tigers scoreless in the third quarter, Oxy would end the drought with a powerplay goal with a second left on the clock as it was tied at the end of the quarter for the third time.
That goal was the last conceded by Redlands' defense, while the offense found the back of the net five times over the final 6:49 after only scoring four times in the first 25:11.
The game-winning goal came on a powerplay that Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) converted thanks to a Parker assist. Parker would score another two goals with Ainsley Killian (Beaverton, OR) and Lundbaek netting their first. Portello (twice) and Pierceall each added assists during the run.
Parker had a game-high four goals after not scoring against Caltech over the weekend and she added a career-high six steals. Pierceall, Portello, and Sawin all had multi-point games. In goal Evelyn Teeter (Westminster, CA) finished with a .600 save percentage thanks to six saves and only four goals allowed. She also had two steals.
Redlands will host Whittier College at the TAC this Saturday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. as the Bulldogs will honor their three seniors prior to the game.
