CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team (17-4, 3-1 SCIAC) run-ruled Pomona-Pitzer 11-2 Friday afternoon as they outscored the Sagehens 9-0 over the final three innings taking home their fourth straight victory.
The Sagehens went out in front early as they got a bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the first. Bulldog starter Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA) got that run back and one more at the plate as she singled home Paige Messenlehner (Fresno, CA) and Adyson Kim for a 2-1 lead in the third.
Following a solo home run in the bottom of the third for Pomona-Pitzer, Kim singled up the middle and brought around Leila Jackson (Vallejo, CA) to reclaim the lead for the Maroon and Grey with what would be the game-winning hit.
In the fifth Redlands broke the game open with a five run inning. The scoring started with a Kassidy Long (Hemet, CA) two-run single to right plating Leila Gomez (San Bernardino, CA) and Kayla Jackson (Bishop, CA).
Sophia Magcale (Cerritos, CA) then made it 6-2 with a single into center as Natalie Lopez (Long Beach, CA) scored. The final two runs came from Natalie Horton (Palmdale, CA) who had the fifth single of the inning, which allowed Jenay Scott (Merced, CA) and L. Jackson to come around.
In the sixth the Bulldogs were able to hit the eight-run margin mark thanks to RBI singles from Scott and Kim as UR took an 11-2 lead into the bottom half of the frame.
Gandara completed the run-rule win and added another complete game to her tally as she worked around a leadoff single for her eighth win of the season.
At the plate, Horton, Gandara, Long, and Kim had two RBI's apiece. Ashley Shelton (Jurupa Valley, CA) and Kim both had three hits.
The Bulldogs and Sagehens are scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday, March 23 at The Field of Dreams with first pitch of game one now scheduled for 11:00 a.m. due potential rain.
