REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team picked up their second shutout this season as they cruised past No. 32 George Fox University 7-0 at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs improve to 6-5, 1-1 SCIAC ending their two match losing skid.
Redlands grabbed the opening point after taking two of three in doubles.
Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) and
Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) rolled 6-0 at No. 1 and
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) would hold on for the 6-4 win at No. 3. The last match on was
MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) who would fall in a breaker 7-6 (2).
In singles the Maroon and Grey carried the momentum with three of the six matches being in straight sets. Nir grabbed the first point at No. 2 winning 6-0, 6-2. Calixto was not far behind at No. 1 winning 6-4, 6-1 moving the score to 3-0 and the clinch would come at No. 5 from
Josh Davydov who rolled 6-3, 6-2 giving the U of R the victory.
The last three matches on went the distance. Anderson came from a set down at No. 3 to win 5-7, 6-2, 10-6. Marcanth after taking the first set 6-2 saw his opponent battle back to level things at 6-2 in the second. The third set breaker would go to the Bulldogs as Marcanth would pull away 6-4 for the sixth point.
Jax Ledwith (West Linn, OR) was the last match on at No. 6 and he too went out in front early winning the opening set 7-5 but he too would drop the second set 6-3 forcing the match to a third, which he ultimately won 10-5 grabbing the clean sweep.
Redlands returns to the court Tuesday, March 26 when they host No. 22 Colby College beginning at 5:00pm at the Verdieck Tennis Center.
