REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (5-5, 2-4 SCIAC) saw their winning streak end at three games as they dropped their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) 21-9 on Wednesday evening at Farquhar Field despite outscoring the Athenas in the fourth quarter.
Claremont-M-S started quickly as they took a 6-0 lead across the first seven minutes before Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) found Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) for the first Bulldog tally at the 6:04 mark.
Then with 11:51 left in the half Catie Ramicone fed Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) for the second U of R goal. Less than three minutes later the Bulldogs made it back-to-back connections as the offense took advantage of a player-up situation with Ramicone picking up her second assist feeding Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA).
Redlands' defensive unit held the Athenas scoreless for more than five minutes as CMS finished the half on a 5-1 run with the lone Bulldog goal coming from Ramicone who was assisted by Walker moving the score to 16-4 at the break.
Redlands conceded the first three of the second half before going on a 5-0 run, while their defense kept CMS from scoring for eighteen and a half minutes.
During the run Webster had a hat-trick in a span of 12 minutes joined by Ramicone and Czajkowski who also beat the Athena keeper. Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) got her first assist of the game as well during the run.
Walker finished with three goals, Webster had four, and Ramicone had two goals and two assists for four points, a new career-high. After Alyssa Ashley (Vista, CA) got the start, Zoe Charum (Glendale, CA) made her way into goal and finished the final 45 minutes with four saves. As a team the Bulldogs finished with 14 shots, four saves, was 9-for-14 on clear attempts, picked up 11 groundballs, won 14 draw controls, and was 1-for-1 on free-positions.
Redlands will play their final non-conference game of the season on Friday, March 29 when they host Whitworth University at 7:00 p.m. under the lights at Farquhar Field.
