Redlands Women's Lacrosse scores final five goals in comeback win over Whitworth

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (6-5) ended their non-conference schedule with a 12-10 come from behind win over Whitworth University Friday night as they scored the final five goals of the game.

The Pirates got the first tally of the game before Catie Ramicone (Countryside, Ill.) matched it :28 seconds later as the game was tied at the 11:21 mark of the first.

After a 3-0 Pirate run, Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) and Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) each converted as the Bulldogs went back-to-back pulling within one, 4-3 at the 6:06 mark.

Whitworth would again respond, but the Redlands defense held them scoreless for the final 3:44 and received goals from Webster and Ramicone over the final minute and a half to tie the score at five apiece at the end of one. Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) had the assist on Webster's goal.

It was a tough second quarter offensively as it took almost 14 minutes for the Bulldogs to break through, while the Pirates added another three to the scoreboard. The final goal of the half came from Maya Weaver (Tustin, CA) who found Webster as it was 8-6 Whitworth.

The turning point for Redlands came late in the third when they were again down by three, 10-7.  Webster was able to spin off a defender for a goal after Ramicone found her inside with only five seconds left in the period.

That score was one of five unanswered as Czajkowski, Webster, and Walker (twice) all scored in the fourth. The defense held the Pirates without a goal for the final 17 minutes and 14 seconds. The U of R's five goals over the final 15 minutes were more than the previous 31 plus minutes.

Webster finished with a game-high six goals, Ramicone had four points on two goals and two assists, Walker had a pair of scores and one assist and Czajkowski had a brace as well.

A notable part of the comeback and late defensive heroics was goalkeeper Alyssa Ashley (Vista, CA) who made 14 saves on the evening including six coming in the fourth quarter, with two on free positions and three total in the final :69 seconds. The 14 saves are tied for the 13th most in a single game in program history.

Redlands will now return to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition next Wednesday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. as they host No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer at Farquhar Field.
