CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (2-2, 0-1 SCIAC) began their 2024 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) season with a 20-1 loss at No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday evening.
Redlands conceded the opening five goals to fall behind early, but after holding the Sagehens scoreless for more than five minutes Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) scored an unassisted goal at the 11:19 mark of the second.
That Webster goal, though, would be the only time the Bulldogs were able to find the back of the net on their six total shots on the evening.
Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) caused a turnover and had three ground balls. Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) finished with three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and one of the three shots on-goal, Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) led the team with four ground balls and tied Czajkowski with two caused turnovers.
In goal Alyssa Ashley (Vista, CA) had three ground balls and 15 saves as she faced 45 Pomona-Pitzer attempts, 35 of which were on goal. Her 15 saves are a new career-high and are the ninth most in single-game program history.
Redlands returns to Farquhar Field this Saturday, March 9 as they host Chapman University at 2:00 p.m. for their conference home opener.
