REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (2-3, 0-2 SCIAC) got off to a quick start against Chapman University Saturday afternoon but the Panthers would go on to score 20 goals as the Bulldogs would fall 20-10 at Farquhar Field.
Ruby Czajkowski (West Hartford, CT) and Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) made it 2-0 inside the first five minutes as Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA) and Cailin Walker (Portland, OR) had the assists. Those two goals, however, were countered by five unanswered by the Panthers.
With 13:41 on the clock in the second quarter Webster scored an unassisted man up goal to draw UR within two.
Five minutes later, now trailing by four, Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) was able to finish cutting the deficit to three. The fifth and final goal of the half came from Webster as Redlands went into the half trailing by five, 11-6.
After being held scoreless in the third, Czajkowski was able to take advantage of a player in the box for Chapman scoring to make it 16-7 Panthers with 11:54 left in the game.
Only nine seconds after Czajkowski's score First-Year Ella Batarse (Porter Ranch, CA) was able to make it back-to-back goals in what was the seventh fastest consecutive goals in single-game program history.
Webster would score the final two Bulldog goals as Redlands would fall in their SCIAC home opener.
Webster finished with five goals, Czajkowski had two goals and an assist, and Batarse had two goals. Bradford finished with eight draw controls, tying her for the 20th most in a single game.
Redlands will stay at home for game two of three-straight as they host Occidental College on Thursday, March 14 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
